Steeped in a dramatic history (it was originally built in
the 15th century) the castle is surrounded by forest and overlooks
the river Jed in the ancient Jed Valley.
Built entirely of stone, the castle is set in prodigious grounds which include tennis courts, forest and riverside walks, a wood lodge for extra guests and a visitors centre for anyone interested in the castle's history.
The interior of the house was extensively restored in the 1980s and has undergone continuous improvements since. It is dominated by the Great Hall which occupies the bulk of of the main building's first floor. Surrounding it, in the turrets and the bothy below, are smaller living rooms, the library and a spare kitchen. There is also a museum dedicated to the clan Kerr.
Beside the dining area of the Great Hall is a large, fully equipped kitchen capable of catering for meals of all sizes. There is another smaller kitchen and dining room downstairs in the castle's bothy.
There are 9 double rooms, 7 of which can be unzipped into 2 single beds. There is an adjacent lodge, which sleeps a further 6 people.
The Master Bedroom and Turret Bedroom each have an ensuite bathroom. The Master bedroom has a shower and bath. The Turret bedroom has a shower but no bath. The Double and Twin in Bothy share one bathroom. The Double room upstairs in the Bothy has a separate private bathroom just to the left. Bedroom 2 in the Castle has a private bathroom just outside the door to the bedroom - but not within. Bedrooms 3, 2 and 1 have two bathrooms along the corridor between them - both with baths
